Who Needs an Expert?
I am a big fan of Mike Holmes and love his philosophy of “Make It Right”. Mike comes in to fix the home renovation blunders of previous contractors. Mike is a responsible and ethical contractor who preaches that it should be done right the first time.
Mike always brings in the experts to fix the problems. I know them well by now – the electrician, plumber, roofer, and the others who identify the problem and then fix it. They bring in the right materials and they have the skill to make it right.
The homeowner could have saved money by bringing in the experts, but they didn’t. The homeowner feared that an expert would cost them more money, so they cut some corners to get the job done. An expert would have saved them a lot of money in the long term, as they can make a recommendation based on their experiences and they can help avoid potential pitfalls.
What about the corporate world? The company identifies a need that is critical to the success of their business. They search for the best solution and make a choice that will solve the problem. The decision is made and executed.
So does your company make the right decision every time? Do you bring in the experts?
